Third Sound Transmission Through Non-Periodic Lattices

摘要

Recently, phonon propagation in modulated media has been receiving considerable attention. [1,2] Such structures can be realized recently in a semiconductor material such as GaAs/GaAlAs employing an modern MBE (Molecular Beam Epitaxy) technique. The most interesting aspects of these phenomena arise from the interference between multiply scattered partial waves. Even in random systems, the recent understanding of the wave localization is based on the interference, which had been believed to be completely absent. In order to observe these effects, it is important to preserve the phase coherency during the multiple scattering. In this sense the sound waves with little attenuation are favorable for the study of these phenomena.
