The objective of this investigation is to simulate stereo images from lidar point clouds. An inferred stereo pair is utilized to a digital photogrammetric workstation for interpretation. In the beginning, we setup some parameters and simulate the orientation parameters of inferred image. 3-D lidar point clouds are back-projected to image space using collinearity equations. We also consider the occlusion between point clouds by using the z-buffer technique. The invisible points are removed and the intensity of visible point is filled into the simulated image. As point clouds are irregular, some of the image elements cannot find the respective intensity. A trianglebased interpolation technique is applied for image resampling. Finally, the inferred stereo pair is generated and applied to the stereographic system. The preliminary experimental results indicate that the proposed method may simulate the inferred stereo pair effectively.
