Resin-fiber interphase in glass fiber reinforced polyurethane and polyurethane-polyester hybrid

摘要

The objective of this study is to evaluate the interphase strength of a glass fiber-reinforced polyurethane composite and compare it with a modified matrix resin, a hybrid of PU-UPE. The inclusion of the UPE (Unsaturated Polyester) in the matrix resin is an attempt to enhance both physical and chemical interactions at the interphase. Presented are some results obtained from the mechanical, optical and kinetic analyses of the composites and their components. This study demonstrates that there are improved physical and chemical interactions at the fiber-matrix interphase in the presence of compatible components in both resin and sizing materials. The PU-UPE system consistently displayed a stronger interphase over the PU system.
