PROMS: A PRO-active Monitoring System for SS7 networks

A PRO-active Monitoring System (PROMS) for SS7 networks is proposed. It actively monitors all signaling network management messages of SS7 networks; alerts operators when there is a potential network error; and provides intelligent diagnosis based on actively collected data when a fault occurs. PROMS is an expert system that uses neural networks to represent a knowledge base. It includes a user-friendly interface to help experts add or modify the rules in the knowledge base. The uncertainties involved in the input description are analyzed using fuzzy theory. With these techniques, PROMS can detect any potential network bugs, as well as network failures. PROMS also provides a user-friendly output interface for network operators to locate the faults.
