N2 - In this paper, an analytical power consumption model for beacon-mode and CSMA/CA-mode access schemes is developed for a wireless body area network (WBAN). Apart from considering the conventional collision from intra-network nodes, the model also investigates the collision caused by the nodes from different moving WBAN groups. From the analysis, we will identify the need of having a hybrid-mode access scheme with at least 63.4% power consumption of beacon-mode and double WBAN user capacity of CSMA/CA-mode to support multi-WBAN groups at a manageable power consumption level.
