摘要

Recently, Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) has been proposed under the Integrated Service architecture to provide bandwidth Guaranteed Service (GS) and Controlled-Load Service (CLS). In this work, we examine problems of running RSVP CLS over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Available Bit Rate (ABR) service. Specifically, two issues are investigated, the ABR flow control mechanism and ATM switch buffer management scheme. We propose a remedy for the Explicit Rate Indication for Congestion Avoidance (ERICA) algorithm which is, a rate-based flow control algorithm. We also propose a buffer management policy for CLS over ATM ABR. Performance of CLS over ATM is evaluated via simulations based on the OPNET simulation tool. Our simulation results show that the proposed schemes are simple, yet they yield high throughput and low delay for CLS traffic.
