N2 - Semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is used for wide-band all-optical signal regeneration, optical gating, and photonic switching. However, the higher channel crosstalk limits its system utilization. To overcome this problem, a strong but out-of-band optical signal is used to clamp the carrier in an SOA. The clamping signal is provided through an internal distributed-feedback (DBF) or distributed-Bragg-reflector (DBR) laser or from an externally injected optical source. These schemes are compared and analyzed to achieve high gain, low-crosstalk, wide-band signal regeneration.
