A numerical calculation on the direct initiation process of detonation by decaying shock waves has been made for premixed hydrogen-oxygen gas mixtures. The numerical model adopted is a one-dimensional reacting flow system in which many elementary reactions are combined. Initial pressure dependency, composition dependency, and dilution effect of induction distance to the detonation has been calculated by varying the incident shock wave speed. Experiments agree with theory.
