摘要

This chapter presents the NCTUns simulation/emulation tool for researchers to evaluate the performances of real-life P2P applications such as BitTorrent. By using a unique simulation methodology, NCTUns directly uses the real-life network protocol stacks in the Linux operating system for realistic network simulations and enables any real-life network application to be executed on a node in a simulated network. These unique capabilities enable researchers to evaluate the performances of real-life P2P applications such as BitTorrent on accurately-simulated networks. In this chapter, we present the architecture of NCTUns, its simulation methodology, its unique capabilities, its detailed usages, and its scalability in real-life P2P application researches. More information about NCTUns is available at http://NSL.cs.nctu.edu.tw/nctuns.html.
