Motion-compensated transform coding schemes using the block-matching technique are studied. An efficient block motion-tracking algorithm that provides good motion estimation while minimizing the computations is presented. The effectiveness of various orthogonal transforms on the motion-compensated frame differential signal is then investigated. The results of coding a real image sequence using various motion-compensated transform coding algorithms are discussed.
