摘要

This paper describes a study and considers the factors influencing: slope angle, foliation angle, and material deterioration on the deformation characteristics of the slate slope. To simulate these phenomena, a series of physical model experiments with simplified environmental conditions were performed in the laboratory. Then, the discrete element method was used to simulate the deformation behaviour of the slate slope under gravity and material deterioration. According to the physical model tests and numerical simulations, the results exhibit the following characteristics. Based on the model tests, two kinds of gravitational deformation of the slate slope are identified: the first one is an overturning failure and the second one is a fold extrusion near the slope toe. The results of the physical model test provide the basic case for the verification of a discrete element simulation. The simulated deformed patterns agree well with the actual deformation for different slope angles.
