Manufacturing of composite links by structural reaction injection molding

An innovative approach was developed to fabricate composite parts with complicated geometry. A specific part is first divided into several simple substructure preform components, each of which is then produced by an optimal process for the particular part geometry and desired properties. These preformed inserts are then assembled on a specially designed tool and then transferred into a mold for resin impregnation and cure to produce the final part. A 3-D computer model has been developed to simulate the mold filling. The simulated results were compared with the experiments.
