N2 - In traditional classroom instruction, instructors spend most of their time teaching lectures where disengaged students passively absorb knowledge. In recent years, the rapid growth of information technology has given rise to the development of flipped classroom instruction, where students obtain class materials before the class, and actively participate in activities with other classmates at any place and at any time. In order to support university internationalization and address the global status of English, an increasing number of EMI courses have been added to the university course offerings in countries where English is not the first language. However, some studies have discussed the negative effects of EMI courses. Therefore, the author introduces EMFL, an EMI and Mobile-assisted Flipped Learning system, which includes an EMFL mobile-assisted application with an EMI flipped classroom teaching pedagogy. The author also confirmed that EMFL encourages students toward greater in-class engagement, collaborative learning, and learning satisfaction.
