N2 - In this paper, we provide a simple way to design a dual-band patch antenna with electromagnetic bandgap structure. The electromagnetic bandgap structure functions as band-stop filters in suspended microstrip line structure, which can be seen as a frequency-selective via, and integrated in a half-wavelength patch antenna. The dual-band patch antenna is comprised of a quarter-wavelength patch antenna with electromagnetic bandgap structure at the first frequency band and a half-wavelength patch antenna at the second frequency band.
