A CMOS generic analog processor, using the current-mode design technique, is described. The processor integrates various functions frequently used in analog computing and signal processing. Its operation can be programmed by digital control signals. Furthermore, it provides serial output as well as parallel outputs, and can be expanded to a larger system by connecting the serial ports of the chip sets together. An experimental chip fabricated using 0.8 μm CMOS process can perform generic functions up to 5 M operations per second. The chip area is less than 3 mm2.
