Design of a Wideband Antenna using Feeding Structure of an L-Probe and U-Slot Driven Patch for an mm-Wave 8x8 Phased Array

摘要

A wideband antenna using the feeding structure of an L-probe plus U-slot driven patch for an mm-Wave 8x8 phased array is proposed. The proposed feeding structure together with 4x4 patches extends the frequency coverage of TM10 mode to 22.2%, which covers the frequency range from 32 GHz to 40 GHz with a low-profile feature of only 0.064 λ0. This antenna with feeding network is easy to integrate array element and RFIC to form an Antenna in Package (AiP). Using the scalability of AiP, the proposed 8x8 phased array is realized. The beam steering capability of the phased array is verified through measurement result, which demonstrates a beamwidth of less than 12.5 degrees and a peak gain with exceeding 40 dB from 32 GHz to 40 GHz.
