摘要

A small scale reaction injection molding (RIM) machine has been designed. It can be used for different reactants with quite a wide range of viscosities. This device has continuous variation of stoichiometric ratio and a self-cleaning impingement mixhead. Reactant circulation can be achieved by the machine itself without external pumps. Construction is simple and modular to allow a wide range of sizes at relatively low cost. The mold can be attached to the mixhead. Controls are described which provide both manual and automatic operation. Stoichiometric control was found to be reproducible and accurate. Approximate design equations are presented and tested for flow rate versus pressure drop. Mixing quality was evaluated by adiabatic temperature rise. A nozzle Reynolds number criteria for good mixing was established.
