摘要

This study was to evaluate the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, as determined by cell responses, of Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy with nano-scaled surface topography. The polished Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy was electrochemically anodized to produce a nano-scaled mesh oxide layer on alloy surface. Surface characterizations, including the topography and microstructure, of the anodized Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy were evaluated using various surface analysis techniques. In comparison to the polished Ti-6Al- 7Nb surface, the presence of nano-scaled mesh layer on the anodized Ti-6Al-7Nb surface increased the corrosion potential and decreased the corrosion rate and passive current in simulated body fluid. The nano-mesh oxide layer also caused better cell adhesion and cell proliferation. Overall, this nano-mesh surface oxide layer improved the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of Ti-6Al-7Nb surface for implant applications.
