N2 - Wavelet transform is an efficient and fast method for capturing the hidden information from many different types of data. Recently there has been a growing interest in using wavelet transforms in the analysis of biological sequences and biology related signals. This review goes through several aspects of bioinformatics, especially those relevant to the functional studies of protein sequences. We focus on applications that use wavelet transforms as the main technology. The areas covered include motif search, sequence comparison, protein secondary structure prediction, detection of transmembrane proteins and hydrophobic cores, mass spectrometry and disease related applications.
