N2 - This paper attempts to demonstrate the development and application of a force model in the end milling. Establishment of this model is based on relations among the chip load, the cut geometry, and the cutter deflection. Deflection contributing to machine tool structure should include the deflection of tool holder, end miller and the connecting parts, such as bearings. According to the deflection formulation, the instantaneous cutting force can be calculated and, furthermore, the shape error also can be predicted and analyzed. The results of predicted cutting force and shape error are in good agreement with those of experiments.
