An intelligent agent-based mobile resource reservation scheme

This paper presents an Intelligent Agent-based ReSource reservation aP-proach (IARSVP) to support Quality of Service (QoS) aware packet transmis-sions for mobile IP (MIP) networks. Mobile Intelligent Agents (MIAs) are char-acterized by their ability to move across wide-area networks, operate autono-mously on foreign hosts, and perform tasks on behalf of the originating hosts. With MIAs, IARSVP can allocate resources in advance for neighbor locations an MN may visit next. Because MIAs carry an MN's mobility security associa-tion, QoS requirement and administration specification, and associated executa-ble codes, they can perform location updates on behalf of MNs, and adjust au-tonomously in accordance with the network topology and resource usage when locating forwarding points for the MN. Therefore, IARSVP can avoid redundant resource reservations made in common routes, support route optimization and regional registration naturally, and discover alternative routes dynamically. Si-mulation results show that IARSVP outperforms Mobile RSVP and Hierarchical Mobile RSVP in terms of forced termination, reservation blocking, and session completion probabilities.
