摘要

Data warehousing enables organisations to solve their business problems, makes data available for analysis throughout the entire organisation and increases overall productivity in the organisation. However, data warehouses are expensive, require extensive planning and are resource intensive by nature. Other limitations also include high initial costs and the need for larger maintenance budgets. As a result, effective implementation of a data warehouse within an organisation is a major challenge for any enterprise worldwide. As cited in a number of literatures, including Park [1], the banking industry is a field that has mass transaction data and, hence, needs extensive information technology such as a data warehouse to improve its quality of service and competitive advantage. This paper uses the banking industry in Taiwan to describe and support the detailed implementation process for a data warehouse. Furthermore, useful suggestions are provided for the future development or adoption of data warehouse technology in other industries.
