光電學院有光電系統研究所、照明與能源光電系統研究所、影像與生醫光電研究所等三個研究所，以及一個光電科技碩士在職專班，在半導體光電元件、光電感測系統、薄膜技術、奈米光電元件、有機發光材料、有機太陽能器件、奈米有機器件、液晶器件、液晶顯示技術、軟性顯示、生醫影像、生醫檢測與信號處理、前瞻光通信系統、太陽能光電、能源科技等項目進行教學及研究計畫。研究方面，以跨領域X-Photonics觀念進行各項光電科技研究，平均每位教師每年計畫經費約170萬元，取得許多研究成果發表於國內外會議及著名期刊。
