Abstract
A new WWW based automatic personal phone book inquire dialogue system for Mandarin language users has been proposed in this paper. The purpose of the system design in this paper is to integrate the WWW with flexible telecommunication channels in order to extend the personal knowledge database. Our structure provides a seamless system to connect WWW, the distributed personal phone book database and the telecommunication service. The user can create and update his personal phone book into the database with unique user identification number via the WWW. If there is no web connection available, the user can access the personal account by dialing this automatic personal phone book inquire dialogue system to retrieve the pre stored phone numbers. By taking advantage of the precise stroke number description for Chinese characters, the inquire dialogue system for Mandarin language environment responds the requests in speech with high accuracy. The voice activated request over telecommunication channel is implemented and believed to be the most general communication scheme. The design in our research can be extended to many other applications which demand the cross platform capability with the collaboration between the web and existing telecommunication infrastructure.
