Abstract

5S audit is one of key items in production line management for audit process and quality certification. The 5S checklist is used when confirming whether 5S practice, generally speaking as housekeeping, in a workplace is in accordance with the 5S ground rule, such as throwing what not needed, labelling designated places. Customers audit shop floor by recording whenever they have been seeing and whatever they have perceived among thousands of 5S action items. However, few empirical studies have researched what customer needs on 5S audit because the 5S result audited by the customers is treated as proprietary information and barely revealed to the public due to the fact that the proprietary information may be any actual or potential conflict of interest including any financial, operational or other relationships with other people, organizations or customers. Instead of disclosure of auditee's result for ethical concerns, this survey was conducted to reveal the customer's needs on 5S audit for a wafer manufacturing fabrication by collecting 23 customers based on the sales revenue. The result shows that different customers by region and business type have their identical preferences, attention, or concerns on 5S action items.
