Abstract

Turbo product codes (TPCs) possess the advantages of (relatively) low decoding complexity and excellent performance. They are very attractive candidate codes for packet communication systems using ARQ. We propose two TPC-based ARQ protocols and evaluate their performance in AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. Numerical results show that the proposed protocols can achieve high throughput with minimum latency at high SNRs and acceptable delay and respectable packet error rate performance at low to middle SNRs.
