Abstract

To reach the L-band single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) operation of erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser system, a compound-ring structure with eight fiber rings is demonstrated. A mode-filter operation can be induced by the octa-ring design and Vernier effect to suppress the multiple longitudinal-mode oscillations and achieve SLM action. In the demonstration, the different output wavelength can be generated in the bandwidth of 1571.0 to 1613.0 nm. Furthermore, the related output features of optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), detected power, wavelength linewidth and stability are also investigated and discussed.
