N2 - In this paper, we report the observation of the self-starting in a self-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser when the laser is operated in high order transverse modes Self-starting of this laser was demonstrated at various wavelengths and cavity lengths without any additional elements been applied. Stable pulses shorter than 100 fsec in duration were obtained at a wavelength near 778 nm.
