Abstract
A new approach to the recognition of industrial objects is proposed. This approach combines the techniques of syntactic and statistical pattern recognition approaches. The approach is general in the sense that it can be applied to the recognition of a variety of industrial parts, machine tools, industrial products, etc. Recognition of such objects is accomplished by the use of syntactic methods for analyzing the shape structures of input objects as well as the use of statistical techniques for classifying the extracted pattern features or attributes.
