Abstract

To obtain single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser, a simple quad-ring scheme is designed for diminishing dense multi-longitudinal-mode (MLM) noise. According to the presented quad-ring design, the wavelength-tuning scale not only can be increased from C- to L-bands, but also can compress the laser linewidth to sub-kHz. Furthermore, the related optical properties of output power, output stability, optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), laser linewidth and wavelength-selectable range are also executed and discussed in this work.
