Abstract

Facing the nature of market dynamics and process (technology) complexities changed fundamentally, the companies start to refine the R&D operation. Hence, the Modern Development Methodology (MDM), Concurrent Engineering, Process Modeling, Multi-disciplinary Team, Collaborative Environment are introduced to pursuit the high performance. However, most of the MDM was conducted as the limited application. Then, the desired performance was dominated by the inadequate customization and integration of the related MDMs and filed facts. There was limited literature could be referenced and verified for both the field application and methodology introduction. This research focuses on the synchronous field case with the deployment of an integrated development methodology in a world-class semiconductor manufacture company (posted annual sales of $4.7 billion ($US) in 2002 and currently employs over 15,000 people worldwide). The integrated methodology, Development Collaboration Diamond Model (DCDM), was designed, introduced and obtained the dramatic performance with the effectively integration of project management, development process reengineering, and collaboration environment. Based on the field facts review, DCDM is a proven methodology and mechanism in the following aspects: Effectively consolidating and fulfilling the organization development knowledge and improvement expectations; Concurrently managing the project and product (technology) information SMART (Specific Measurable Action-oriented Realistic Timely) e-Business road map of R&D transformation; Process-oriented guidance and approach for the academic and the industry to pursuit the concurrent development;
