Abstract
A synthesized high-speed pulse generator was employed to drive an acousto-optic modulator to generate 8.5-ps pulses at a repetition rate of 200 MHz with an average output power of 150 mW. Both self-phase modulation in the gain medium and fast switching enhanced pulse shaping in the modulator are primary causes for the low ratio between pulse-width and repetition rate according to our simulation. This laser is useful for time domain optoelectronic sampling measurement on microwave/millimeter-wave circuits and devices.
