Abstract

The reaction NO2 → NO + Oad at aGe surface was studied by combined molecular beam and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) techniques. The rotational state distribution of the NO formed is non-Boltzmann, in contrast to NO molecules undergoing trapping/desorption. It is concluded that NO formed by NO2 decomposition is directly released into the gas phase (dissociative desorption) without being intermediately thermally accommodated to the surface.
