Abstract

This paper presents a laser scanner with folded paper hinge and actuated by voice coil motor. The system has several advantages compare to conventional MEMS micro scanner due to the novel material and design of the hinge. We choose paper as the material to form the hinge and the mechanism to steer the mirror, which not only reduces the cost significantly, but also brings a lot of flexibility for the design. The prototypes are tested to reach 45° of mirror scanning angle with 100 mA actuation current at 113 Hz resonance.
