Abstract
This paper describes the application of topology optimization in the design of suspensions for high-density magnetic recording systems. Techniques were developed to track higher order modes, of which vibration affects the accuracy of head positioning. As a result of such design optimization, dynamic performances of suspensions, especially the first torsional frequency, were tremendously improved.
