Abstract
When laser beam was focused into nanoparticle suspensions, nanoparticles can be trapped in the focal spot due to optical gradient force. Here we report the optical trapping and fluorescence analysis of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and its related polymer microgel particles which were labeled with 4-N-(2-acryloyloxyethyl)-N-methylamino-7-N,N-dimethylaminosulfonyl-2,1, 3-benzoxadiazole (DBD-AE) dispersed in water. The DBD-AE labeled PNIPAM microgel particles were trapped at the focal point by irradiation with cw-Nd 3+:YAG laser (λ = 1064 nm) in water and the fluorescence intensity of the DBD-AE labeled PNIPAM microgel particles excited by diode laser (λ = 405 nm) increased stepwise. We succeeded to fluorescence analysis of trapped single microgel particle.
