Abstract

The concepts presented in this paper give an approach to control problem by relating dimensional changes to size (crosssectional area) and shape (ratios of dimensions) changes which in turn can be related naturally to extruder operation and material properties. These concepts are illustrated for size control by manipulating screw speed and for shape control by thermal methods. Other shape control methods, such as adjustable dies and roller dies, are also feasible.
