Abstract

Visual impression tests have been conducted to investigate the requirements of a paper-like display. Texts of English and traditional Chinese characters with varying reflectance were printed on A-4 size paper in order to simulate a non-emissive paper-like display. Paper with various background reflectance and color was also arranged in a certain radius of curvature in order to provide useful human factors guidelines for paper-like displays used in the freehand holding condition. The results indicate that the required contrast does not depend on the radius of curvature but the background color.
