Abstract

The p-H2 matrix has emerged as a novel host for matrix isolation partly because of its diminished cage effect. So far, most spectral investigations were performed with infrared absorption. We investigated the fluorescence of NO isolated in solid p-H2 upon irradiation at 193 nm and observed emission from the A 2Σ + (v = 1), A 2Σ + (v = 0), B 2Π, and a 4Π states, which is distinct from preceding reports of NO in noble-gas matrices. The unique properties of p-H2 for electronic transitions, such as a small matrix shift on T00 and distinct phonon interactions, are discussed.
