Laser-induced fluorescence of HCO concentration in flames

Quantitative laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) measurements of the concentration of HCO were made in low-pressure methane/air flames with stoichiometry varying between fuel-rich and fuellean. The LIF signal is calibrated with measurements from a sample with a known HCO concentration produced by laser photolysis of acetaldehyde. The LIF signal is adjusted for the variation in the population of the laser excited level as the temperature changes with position in the flame. The variation in quenching with position in the flame is measured and the LIF measurements corrected. The resulting concentration measurements are compared with model predictions.
