Abstract

The hyperpolarizabilities (β) of the push-pull chromophores and the polynorbornenes that contain the push-pull chromophores as side groups are measured and compared using the long wavelength hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) technique. The HRS technique is shown to be useful for characterizing the chromophore β values. It is more straightforward than the electric field induced second harmonic generation technique.
