Abstract

Taiwanese Glove Puppetry is a traditional performance art form deeply rooted in Taiwanese culture. Glove puppetry has cultural and historical significance, and its visual design and craftsmanship of puppet design make it a promising area of focus for engagement. This study demonstrates the potential of gaze interaction to enhance the audience’s understanding and appreciation of traditional puppetry characters. The interaction was implemented with eye-tracker Tobii Nano and Unity SDK. The puppet costume design’s intricate details, and the symbolic patterns are displayed and emphasized through the gaze-based user interface. By merging traditional art forms with eye-tracking technology, this study presents the potential for a more meaningful and engaging experience that deepens one’s appreciation of Taiwanese Glove Puppetry.
