Frictional performance of wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers - Data with larger diameter tube and deep tube row

Abstract

This study presents frictional performance of the finand-tube heat exchangers having wavy fin geometry with a larger diameter tube (Dc = 15.88 mm). A total of twelve samples of heat exchangers subject to change of the number of tube row are examined in a wind tunnel at controlled environment. One of the unusual characteristics of the measured frictional characteristics is the dependence of tube row which is not seen for other fin geometries such as plain, louver, and slit. It is likely is due to the change of flow pattern caused by the wavy corrugations. It is found that the dependence of tube row is diminished for N ≥ 4 at a smaller fin pitch of 1.7 mm whereas the independence phenomenon is prolonged to N ≥ 8 when the fin pitch is increase to 3.6 mm.
