Femtosecond Patterning of Monolayer Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Abstract

We perform the first single shot femtosecond laser ablation and patterning experiments on monolayer hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). The observed intrinsic ablation threshold fluence is nearly 809 mJ/cm2, which is 10× higher than all other two-dimensional materials. This indicates monolayer hBN is optically very robust.
