N2 - The communication channels inside the university campus are changing due to the implementation of newly developed electronic technologies. The electronic communication technology which provides the function to link computers as a network enables users to exchange electronic mails, login to remote computers, and transfer files. This paper presents preliminary outcomes from a network user survey at the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan. The survey results including types and frequency of network use, the nature of electronic communication, and problems users have ever faced. This study might be useful for NCTU and other academic institutions in implementing or upgrading network systems for electronic communication.
