Dynamic smart retailing innovation from an evolutionary perspective

Abstract

Technological advancement allows transforming conventional retailing into smart retailing to improve business development. The objective of this research is to analyze technological trajectory of retailing which gradually become smart after the maturity of IOT or AI. To understand such smart revolution underpinned by technological innovation. This study utilizes patent analysis together with social network analysis to depict the trajectory of smart retailing related technology. It is found that US and Japan are two most important countries and IBM, Microsoft, Sony are three most important companies which play critical roles in global smart retailing industry.
