Abstract

The highest frequency fluctuations are those which occur at the same frequency as the screw rotation. Fluctuations in the intermediate frequency range are the main cause of poor product quality. Conventional feedback control cannot handle this kind of disturbance. However, with the use of digital computers, new control methods with faster response times and earlier corrective action may be developed for this application if the dynamic behavior of the extrusion line is well understood. This work presents the study of transient responses of a single screw plasticating extruder and of the entire extrusion line.
