Abstract

”Does internet emancipate women?” The answer for cyberfeminists is ”yes” but we have a doubt on it. Through interviewing 14 experienced players, this study attempts to illustrate that the online game, being an important and popular area of cyberspace, could not liberate the female. The results of the study indicate that the communicative characters of online game, including the entertaining tendency, male-center and re-embodiment, would not help females conquer the existing dualistic gender identity model. On the opposite, the extreme of patriarchal distortion on gender formulation in online interaction is reinforced.
