Abstract
Mechanisms are an integral part of most machines. But putting together even a simple mechanism is not easy. Traditional approaches require the engineer to wade through many iterations before a good design is found. This article discusses how engineers soon may use knowledge-based systems to take the guesswork out of mechanism design.
