Abstract

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) Spectrometer are useful for the kinetic measurement of polymerizations. The thermal method is easy to apply but only suitable for systems with single reaction. The spectroscopic method can detect the detailed reaction mechanism of complex polymerizations such as Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) formation. In this study, a combined DSC-FTIR technique and its application to the reaction kinetics of a polyurethane-polyester IPN is discussed.
